The project is our architect-developer initiative, developed as part of a team with DUO Development , based on the premise that neighborhoods change faster than buildings. We have conducted community engagement and several interviews with local residents to inform the conceptual design and drawings for a city-owned lot on Taylor street in Chicago’s little Italy.
The project transforms an underutilized bocce court that has remained on the site for over 20 years, introducing a rotating program with 11 potential sources of income to support long-term adaptability and financial sustainability. The design amplifies the idea of play through a flexible “Public Living room” combining recreation, gathering, exhibitions, performances, retail, and creative work.
