Obras Compartidas / Shared Works is a community-led development initiative by DUO DEVELOPMENT supporting 12 projects across Chicago. The program provides residents with access to the technical knowledge, financing, professional networks, and design expertise needed to move their own neighborhood-based development ideas from vision to realization.

The exhibition brought these projects together at different stages of development, from site acquisition and due diligence to active design and planning. Each proposal responds to the specific needs, opportunities, and ambitions of its neighborhood, demonstrating how local ownership can produce a more diverse and responsive urban landscape.

Architecture of Noise is a site-specific exhibition at the Edith Farnsworth House by Mies van der Rohe that investigates architecture’s ability to recalibrate through crisis, history, and the layered “noise” of the contemporary city. Combining film, archival research, and installation, the project reinterprets the house through Chicago’s broader architectural and urban history.

The project included design development, script writing, and fabrication of key exhibition components, including the Collapse Archive Cabinet, film set, and illuminated archive installation. The work spanned conceptual design, digital modeling, fabrication, and on-site exhibition assembly.

Location:

The interview was conducted on January 4th in the NYC office with Nile Greenberg, co-founder of ANY (Abel Nile New York). Using a Charlie Rose–style interview setup, the team and I re-created the atmosphere of a close, intimate one-on-one conversation, discussing the recent preoccupation with Crisis Formalism, books, and Nile’s architectural journey. As part of the analysis of the interview as a medium, elements surrounding the interview were also depicted, including the crew, the setup, and the approach to the ANY office.

In contemporary housing, ownership is often viewed as an achievement, a symbol of high status and luxury. However, instead of strengthening community ties, ownership can exacerbate isolation between household. Ownership can inadvertently weaken the fabric of the community through social and physical separation, reducing opportunities for mutual support and shared experiences that help build connections among neighbors.

The concept of “use” emphasizes solidarity and shared accessibility rather than privitization. Using shared spaces and items should not be regarded as a lesser form of living, unworthy of the same standards that ownership receives, but can serve as a foundation for building community and fostering responsibility through respect for what is not individually owned. What may seem luxurious can often be a superficial facade of vanity, masking a life characterized by detrimental individualism.
